The Central African Country of Cameroon has initiated a campaign to highlight the ills of social media and need for social regulation in other to preserve the image of the Francophone speaking country.

This is coming on the back of the actions of several citizens, who have been taking to social media platforms to misinterprets and deform facts among others over certain issues revolving in Cameroon including last month's deadly train incident, which derailed at Yaounde leaving at least 80 people dead with 600 injured.

Social media users in Cameroon criticised President Paul Biya aftermath of the incident for what they described as his unconcerned attitude towards the tragic accident due to the fact that he didn’t return immediately from Switzerland where he had gone for a meeting.

The statement read as follows:

"The State of Cameroon is resolutely committed to the fight against social media so as to preserve the image of the country. Social media is increasingly becoming a rallying point for those who want a change at the helm of the state."
