German driver Nico Rosberg is the new Formula One champion after he held off Mercedes teammate and defending champion Lewis Hamilton's challenge to win the championship.
Rosberg needed to seal a podium finish in the last race of the year namely the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to win the championship ahead of Hamilton and he did just that as he finished the race in 2nd place behind Hamilton to clinch the championship.
The win for Nico Rosberg means the Rosbergs are only the second family in which a father and son have won the F1 world title, after Graham and Damon Hill. Nico Rosberg's father, Keke, won his title back in 1982.
