Irish Legend Keane To Leave LA Galaxy After Five Successful MLS Years‎



Former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane‎ has announced his departure from Major League Soccer (MLS) side LA Galaxy after spending five years with the club.

This is coming on the back of former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard's announcement that he will also be leaving the club as well.

Keane, 36, scored 92 goals in 146 appearances for the club during his stay since his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in 2011. While speaking on his decision, Keane said the time is right "for a new challenge".

In his words, he said: "I still feel as fit and sharp as ever and I am looking forward to my nex‎t adventure."

He further added: "Having now retired from international football I am ready to focus everything I have on one last major challenge in club football.‎"

"I will be taking time out to consider my options before announcing my next move."‎ he concluded.

On Keane's departure, LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said: "It is hard to put into words what Robbie Keane has meant to the LA Galaxy."

"Robbie has been the most successful international signing in this league's history." he further stated.

Robbie Keane, who won three MLS Cups (2011, 2012 and 2014) with LA Galaxy in addition to winning the 2014 MLS Player of the Season as well as LA Galaxy Player of the Season for four years since 2012, is also his country's record goalscorer (68 goals) and appearance maker (146).
