Former world champions Spain and Italy secured respective big wins in Group G to stay in contention for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers though the former lead the standings from the 3-time winners.
Spain defeated Macedonia 4-0 with goals from Vitolo, Nacho Monreal and Aritz Aduriz in addition to Darko Velkoski's own goal at home while Italy got the better of their hosts Liechtenstein also by the same scoreline courtesy a brace from Andrea Belotti and further strikes from Ciro Immobile and Antonio Candreva. It represents the first time Italy will scored four first half goals for the first time in 29 years (since 1987).
In the other Group G game, Israel beat Albania 3-0 to leapfrog their hosts on the standings. Eran Zahavi netted an early penalty before further goals from Dan Einbinder and Eliran Atar secured the points.
