African Stars Aubameyang, Mahrez Makes UEFA TOTY List



Reigning African footballer of the year Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and last season's PFA player of the season, Riyad Mahrez of Algeria, ‎have named on the 40-man list of UEFA's Team of the Year.

Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang was instrumental last season as he helped his German side finish behind champions Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga while Mahrez led Leicester City to an unlikely English Premier League (EPL) triumph.

‎Champions League holders Real Madrid are the most represented club with eight entries namely goalkeeper Keylor Navas, defenders Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Pepe, midfielders Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, and forwards Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo while arch-rivals Barcelona have five players on the list in Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique.

Overall there are 4 Goalkeepers, 12 Defenders, 12 Midfielders and 12 Forwards.

Fans can vote for the team of the year on Uefa's website until 3 January.
