Chijioke Obioha's Execution, Heartbreaking - Presidential Aide Abike Dabiri-Erewa



The Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa has disclosed that the execution of a Nigerian man identified as Chijioke Obioha in Singapore on Friday for drug related offences was heartbreaking.

She said this in a statement made available by her Special Assistant on Media, Abdur-Rahman Balogun in Abuja adding that the unfortunate incident was amidst repeated warnings to Nigerians to obey the laws of the land of their host countries.

She said: "While we regret the death of the Nigerian, we once again appeal to Nigerians to avoid crimes like drug trafficking with most countries especially in Asia declaring zero tolerance for drug trafficking."‎

She further stated her appeal to Nigerians to avoid drug peddling in their host countries as laws of countries, whether acceptable or not, will be difficult to influence.

The aforementioned Chijioke was caught in Singapore trafficking in hard drugs on December 30, 2008 before he was finally executed on Friday November 18, 2016.


Islamic Cleric Sheikh Yusuf's Kidnappers Demand For N60m Ransom



Kidnappers of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abdulaziz Yusuf, have demanded for the princely sum of N60 million as ransom for them to effect his release.‎
Sheikh Yusuf, who is the administrative secretary of Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Plateau State branch, was kidnapped near Kaduna alongside his driver on Wednesday evening on his way back to Jos from Kaduna State.

He was scheduled to join Sheikh Khalid Aliyu in Jos so that the two would travel to Sokoto on Friday morning on a condolence visit to the family of late Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki.

Publicity Secretary for JNI, Abubakar Aliyu, who confirmed the unfortunate incident urged members of the organization to pray for the safe release of the captives.

He said: "The unfortunate rise of kidnappings in Nigeria is very alarming, as this is the third in the series of kidnapping that has happened to the JNI" he said in a statement.
"The first was Sheikh Adam Abdullahi Idoko, JNI Vice President-General, South East, in September, 2015. The second was Engr. Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, Member JNI Central Publicity Committee, in September, 2016, and now Sheikh Abdul’Aziz Yusuf. We therefore, implore all Jumu’ah Imams to include the matter in their Khutbah for enlightenment and Du’a tomorrow Friday, 18th November, 2016 and pray fervently for the safe and unconditional release of Sheikh Abdul’Aziz Yusuf, who is over 80 years of age."

Sad! Nigerian Chijioke Obioha Finally Executed In Singapore



A Nigerian man identified as Chijoke Stephen Obioha was executed in the Asian country of Singapore on Friday morning, after the Court of Appeal dismissed an Urgent Criminal Motion filed by his lawyer, Mr Joseph Chen on Thursday. 
 

His death was confirmed by Mr Ravi, who is a member of The Singapore Anti-Death Penalty Campaign. Mr Ravi, who assisted Mr. Joseph Chen with the research for the case, took to his Facebook page on Friday morning to announce the news.

He said: "This morning, at 6am, the execution of Chijioke Stephen Obioha took place. I am not even sure if his family from Nigeria were able to attend. Soon it will be all forgotten together with Chijioke’s name, but for the many of us who fight and campaign to eradicate this barbaric practice of death by hanging, and for those of us who challenge the mandatory death penalty for drug trafficking in Singapore, our work will go on. And it must."‎


Mr Ravi later confirmed that he is making arrangement with the Roman Catholic Prison Ministry to claim his body for proper burial today or tomorrow as follows: "I'm currently arranging with the Roman Catholic Prison Ministry ( RCPM) to claim the body of Chijioke from the Singapore Prisons Service for a proper funeral in accordance with his religious beliefs.The funeral will take place either today or tomorrow depending on how soon the SPS could release the body. Will keep you posted."‎

Chijoke's problems started in 2007 when he was arrested and subsequently sentenced to the Mandatory Death Penalty in 2008 after being found guilty of trafficking more than 2kg of Cannabis. in total, he spent almost 8 years on death row and more than 9 years behind bars.

Famous Lagos Lawyer, ‎Festus Keyamo, has strongly condemned, in clear terms, the recent jungle justice meted out to a phone thief in the Alafia Bus Stop area of Orile in Lagos State.


Keyamo, who is widely regarded as an human rights legal luminary, took to his Twitter page as pictured above to react to the unlawful act as follows: ‎
"Its ironic that the same mob that metes out jungle justice to small-item thieves, prostrates for the million-dollar thieves when they drive by."‎

Suspects In Billionaire Femi Otedola Kidnap Plot Paraded (Photo)



Three suspects fingered in the kidnap plot against billionaire businessman Femi Otedola have been paraded by security officials.

The three men namely Ayodele Temitayo (A dismissed Soldier), Ikechukwu Daniel and Adeyemi Ayobami Kayode (NSCDC Inspector) and other accomplices were reportedly planning to kidnap the billionaire.‎

Hate Crimes Against Muslims, LGBT, Blacks On The Rise, FBI Report Reveals




A new report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has stated that hate crimes against Muslims, LGBT and Blacks are on the rise having been on the low for two decades.

According to the report that was released on Monday, hate crimes against Muslims were up by 67% from 2015 to 2016 while crimes against religious groups were up by 23 percent since 2014. Hate incidents against anti-black and LGBT were also up as well.

In 2015, there were 257 anti-Muslim hate crimes, compared to 154 the year before as regards the FBI report, based on the data submitted by 14,997 law enforcement agencies across the nation.

This was the first year that anti-Arab hate crime was recorded by the FBI as there were 37 incidents and 48 victims in addition to the first year that crimes against Mormons, Sikhs, Buddhists, Eastern-Orthodox and Jehovah's witnesses were recorded.‎

See What This Pregnant Lady Did To Her Football Star Boyfriend!



20-year old Pregnant woman, Mary Gaspar, could likely have ended his ‎football star boyfriend Jonnu Smith's college career following the former's inhumane attack on him.

The pair had a dispute at his apartment prompting Mary to pour boiling water ‎on the Florida International University tight end.

While at the FIU police headquarters, Mary recounted what transpired between the duo as follows: 

"The two argued through the day over the attention Smith was paying to her and their relationship. While in Smith’s dorm room and “feeling extremely emotional and stressed,” she told police, she boiled a pot of water. Then, she walked over to Smith and poured it on him. When Smith didn’t react strongly enough for her, she started hitting him with her open hands."

Jonnu Smith suffered severe burns on his head, neck, back, a shoulder, an arm and had to be hospitalized after the incident but he is back on campus even though he’s not fit for the football field. Meanwhile Gaspar, who is five months pregnant with Smith’s child was arrested two days later. She has since pleaded not guilty, and was released on a pre trial order.‎

Soldier Nabbed For Stealing iPhone In Warri



A young soldier has met his waterloo after he was apprehended for allegedly stealing an iPhone from the popular Gbagi Plaza in Warri, Delta State.

The man, who was dressed i‎n a military camouflage, was brutally beaten before being rescued and taken to the house of a retired military officer. The suspect was thereafter transferred to the 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army barracks at Effurun.
